MEET SARAH
My name is Sarah Schmidt, and I’m a retired Detective Sergeant from the Sterling Police Department in Illinois. I spent over two decades in law enforcement before retiring in 2019. My husband, Kris—a retired Sergeant from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office—and I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 2022, not entirely sure what God had planned for us next.
Even after retirement, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my work wasn’t finished. Law enforcement had given me purpose, but it had also left me with trauma, regret, and questions—about faith, family, and how to truly heal.

Not long after our move, I was unexpectedly offered a job as Executive Administrator at the church we attend in Fairbanks. On my very first day, I quit—I didn’t feel worthy of the position or confident that I belonged there. But the next day, after some honest conversations with our pastors (and a lot of prayer), I decided to stay.

That decision changed my life.

During my time working at the church, I began to see that ministry and law enforcement aren’t so different. Both are callings to face darkness, protect others, and bring good into the world. But unlike the badge, ministry taught me something I had missed for years: we can’t fight evil alone. We need God—His strength, His grace, and His healing—to keep going.

Through that realization, Faith, Family & Law Enforcement Officers was born.

This ministry exists to support the heroes who serve and protect—to remind them and their families that they are not alone in this journey.

Our Mission
To strengthen faith, restore families, and renew the hearts of law enforcement officers and those who love them.
